Gone Quilting with Fons & Porter: Episode 1

Karen McTavish

Longarm machine quilting allows Karen to combine her two passions: Wholecloth and Trapunto. Karen specializes in crafting award-winning quilts using techniques which allow machine quilters to replicate traditional "hand-quilted" effects.

Karen is an APQS artist, Millennium quilting machine expert and APQS representative.

She has been featured on PBS's Quilt Central, and HGTV's Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson. Her work has appeared in Joanne Line's books, Quilts from the Quilt Makers Gift #1 and #2, and numerous national magazines and journals.

Karen's first book, Quilting for Show, was published in 2002; her second book, Whitework Quilting, is available through select retailers.

She has been a full-time professional longarm quilter since 1997 - supporting herself and her two children through her craft. Karen lives on Lake Superior's North Shore, quilting and teaching from her studio, throughout the country and in Canada.
