My stencil throwdown finally done
I didn't think I'd ever get this quilt done but mostly because I didn't have enough hours in the day. I ended up having to do a much denser
background fill than I had planned and that shell took forever but if I went too big the stencil design would have been lost. Here are my details:
Marking - I used miracle chalk and a pounce pad
Who does the quilt belong to? A customer (she did a great job piecing it and took so much time to center the motif in the border that I ended up
outlining it. I had planned piano keys which would have been a lot quicker!
Quilt measurements - 87 x 112
How long did it take you to quilt the quilt? Too long, probably 30 hours or more.
Stencil was from stensource #BC1817

I loved this stencil but I needed something for a block so I just repeated the design 4 times. I used Deloa's curved cross hatch ruler for the cross
hatching. Here is the stencil I made. I used an xacto cutter (very slow) and then remembered that Kay gave really good directions on using a dremmel
tool. Glad hubby had one of those. Worked great and much quicker. You can see it was well used. I don't think I'll use that blue stencil plastic
again though. It was hard to keep in place. Ended up using Pam Clarks basting spray.

Full quilt

Block detail

more blocks

final picture half squares

I hope that was enough detail for you Mary Beth. Thanks for the challenge.

Beautiful job Heidi. The dense filler was worth it- that stencil design really pops.

I love this stencil also! It's one of my personal favorites. You did a wonderful job using it - and in a way that I haven't seen done before. (I
have also tried to make a version of it, and like you, decided I wouldn't do that again! It was way too hard. I'm going to look up the directions
for using a dremmel tool to create a stencil. That's a great idea!)
Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous! Just like all your quilts You did an
amazing job. I really like the block configuration you created using the stencil. The quilt just turned out beautiful!
I LOVE this challenge, and am so enjoying the show!

Very pretty, Heidi! I know what yoou mean about that blue stencil plastic, and the flimsey frosted plastic is even worse. Love the borders, too!

Great quilting! I love the way you combined the stencil bits to make a new stencil. I am unfamiliar with using the dremmel to cut stencils. I've
struggled with xacto in the past. I did a search on the fora for posts regarding dremmel but didn't find anything. Could you please give a
reference?

Thank you all so much. I'm just glad it is finally done. I wish you could see it in person, it looks so much better than my photos. It is one long
quilt though. The stencil actually quilted up very quickly. I was able to do my bump, bump feathers going up and down because they were marked. I
just made sure the bump went on the same feather. The background fill was what took so long. I won't be doing that much on customer quilts that is
for sure. I hope she just loves it.
