So many feathers….so little time! Whether yours are long and narrow, short and wide, spiky, curvy, fluffy or flat --- everybody loves feathers and everybody has their own style! This is an intermediate to a bit more advanced level class. I will show you how to create swags, work around the corners and how I mark for them. We will work on wreaths and add some decorative thread for some unexpected sparkle. Bring your imagination, pencil and paper along with a full dose of energy and attitude.

Here are 25+ designs that are a little more adventurous for the more advanced student. These designs are for the larger borders as well as the small ones. All are free motion and don't require turning and repinning your quilt. Learn how they fit, flip over, mirror image, and turn corners easily to adapt to any quilt that you may have!

Advanced Beginner’s Longarm Class
Now that we all have gotten through the holiday quilting rush and the family events, it is time to get your creative juices flowing once again!
We are offering an Advanced Beginner’s Longarm class which will cover:
- Pantos – how to set them up and make the most of your quilting space
- Background Fill – how to move past simple stippling
- Susie Swirls and Chrissy Curves – lovely all over freehand designs using swirls and points
We will spend time practicing these techniques on paper and then everyone will have an opportunity to try out these new designs on the machine itself. The cost is $125 and includes a light lunch. The fee is payable in advance. Please contact us at classes@overthetopquilting.com.

Sampler quilts will no longer be a headache but become a joy after this class. You will learn many ways to do a block with continuous curve, loops, twists, curls, stencils, feathers, etc. With little marking or stops and starts you will quilt your way around the block and home again.
Learn how to connect blocks and all your quilting on a quilt to make your quilting time more productive. We will discuss many ways to quilt traditional quilts and various blocks. You will be able to tackle that next quilt with a lot of design ideas.

Unlock the mystery of free motion feathers. These feathers are simple and easy but yet elegant for any quilt. You will learn the basic feather and then how to use it in crosses, wreaths, hearts, swags, and borders. Learn how to vary the feather shape to fit into different quilt styles. Amy Anderson, our head service technician, leads you through the very basics of machine maintenance, all the way through more in-depth service such as timing and motor brushes. Other topics include tension issues, thread and needles, wheel adjustments, hook maintenance and more. Learn how to keep your quilting machine running like new! These APQS classes are taught by the very people who hand-assembled your quilting machine, right at the factory in Carroll, Iowa.
